I have doodled in class for as long as I remember. In my wandering doodles I meet these creatures. As I give them life with my sharpie, each creature introduces itself to me. They are all different and strange. They are fast, loose, and free. They often start with a circle. They are my minds way of release. They are a way for me to explore a secret realm within myself.
I cannot escape myself. Each moment I move through this world, I react to every feeling, sight, sound, touch, and taste experienced both consciously and unconsciously. Every decision represents a culmination of my experiences, all my conditions of existence. I struggle with this culmination clashing together trying to coexist. These manifest in my drawings in ways I do not understand.
My creatures are a way for me to embrace ambiguity. My creatures allow me to be ok with not knowing what is to come, and if what I’m doing is “right”. They are a way for my inner feelings and anxieties to explode on to the paper safely.
